Celebrating Celiac Awareness Month, with gluten-free banana muffins
April showers bring May flowers but the only kind of flour you will be reading about this month is sorghum, rice, millet, quinoa, almond or hazelnut.
As you have no doubt heard, May is Celiac Awareness Month.
A lot of our friends in the online celiac community are celebrating big. We can’t wait to read more and spread the word about. The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) is recognizing the Heroes Within Us – community members who are out there making a difference in the lives of those with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Our friend Pam Jordan from I Am a Celiac will be sharing tips and giving away great gluten-free products.
We will be doing out part to bring awareness through thoughtful, interesting and quality pieces on our social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn) and right here on our blog.
We will be celebrating and sharing with you our favorite brands that have an emphasis on quality, like Gluten Free Therapeutics. This is for our friends who suffer from celiac disease and who always need new products to try. We will take it one step further and include inspired recipes too.
In a weekly feature, we will shine the spotlight bright on some local companies, from our home state of Maine who produce fantastic gluten-free products. We will be talking to these Maine companies and dig a little further into their business and their contributions to living (deliciously) gluten-free.
We will also bring back our celiac facts. You can check out our past celiac facts on our social media or simply search #CeliacFact
And finally, we will push out posts that bring it all back to the reason this month was created: awareness. In addition to the aforementioned features, we will be posting for the friend and family member of those with celiac disease.
To kick of our coverage of Celiac Awareness Month, we would like to feature one of our favorite brands: King Arthur Flour. They are our New England neighbors and are based in Vermont. Their gluten-free mixes and flours are highly rated by the GFT team as well as recently by in a feature titled Have Your (Gluten-Free) Cake and Love Eating It Too by public television’s America’s Test Kitchen. company is constantly ranked as one of the top places to work in the state and the employees give back through community service projects.
