Why Bone Health?
Why Bone Health?
We’re so excited that April 2 has finally arrived and GFT headquarters is buzzing.
This isn’t just another Wednesday and there is a reason to celebrate: today is the day that Celi•Vites for Balanced Bone Health, our third member of the Celi•Vites family, is finally available to you, our loyal and wonderful customers.
Bone Health is such an important issue, especially for those suffering with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. It is our most requested and anticipated supplement and it’s more than just a business decision.
Just as Gluten Free Therapeutics was created out of need, the idea to create a gluten-free supplement with only the highest quality ingredients to target balanced bone health is personal.
Taylor Reynolds, Vice President of Research and Development at Gluten Free Therapeutics was diagnosed with celiac disease in her early 30s and suffered extreme fatigue, weight loss, thinning hair, profound anemia and osteopenia, or low bone density.
Jefferson Adams posted an article on Celiac.com summarizing a study from the UK that had a simple and shocking statistic: people with celiac disease, who have no other risk factors for osteoporosis were four and a half times more likely to develop the disease.
A gluten-free diet often is often lacking in essential nutrients because many fortified foods also contain gluten. Also, many with celiac disease experience intestinal damage and despite consuming healthy foods are unable to properly absorb nutrients the nutrients they need.
Many turn to supplements to get the nutrients they need and here is what makes Celi•Vites for Balanced Bone Health different:
Like Celi•Vites for Balanced Body and Blood Health, Bone Health is formulated for maximum absorption and utilization. Balanced Bone Health is in powder form, making it easy to dissolve your once daily serving in water or juice.
It contains balanced proportions of potassium, magnesium and two forms of calcium. There’s easy-to-absorb calcium citrate and highly absorbable plant-based form of calcium, Aquamin®
A daily dose of Celi•Vites for Balanced Bone Health contains 180 mcgs of vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-7) – this dosage was effective at preventing bone loss over a three-year period in a clinical study of healthy postmenopausal women.*

Celi•Vites for Balanced Bone Health is tested to be free of gluten to less than 5 ppm. It can help anyone dealing with bone loss, not just those suffering with celiac disease or who are gluten sensitive.

One dose has 500 mcg of calcium. I’ve been told to take 1000. I’m 65 and have osteopenia and a gluten allergy. Would I need to take 2 doses of the bone health supp?
Hello Clare,
Thank you for your question regarding Bone Health. Calcium needs increase with age. We know that is difficult for some people to get enough calcium in their diet, and those with celiac disease suffer from malabsorption, so we have designed Bone health to supplement dietary sources of calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin D, and vitamin K2.
Doing a dietary survey can help inform you of your nutrient intake from the foods you eat. It is useful to record over about one week the following: How many servings of dairy you eat per day, as well as other foods you eat that are rich in calcium (kale, broccoli, etc…) . With the understanding that at your age you need 1,200mg of calcium per day, compare your diet history with the table at this website:
(consult the office of dietary supplements for a table of calcium rich foods and how many mg are in a serving).
to see how much you may be lacking. The typical American diet with several servings of dairy products per day provides enough calcium so that the supplemental daily dose of 500mg in Bone Health by CeliVites is enough. The information on the link above will help you and your health care provider determine how much supplementation you require.
Please see this link for information about magnesium and the recommended daily amounts:
(Office of dietary supplements – magnesium)
It is unwise to take more calcium and magnesium than you need. Because you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, we highly recommend consulting your physician to determine the level of calcium (as well as magnesium, potassium, vitamin K and vitamin D) intake that is right for you.
Thank you again for your great question and let us know if we can help you further.
